Is It Ok To Be Human?

Hello everyone and thank you for reading my blog.

Wherever we are, whatever we do and whoever we are, we are all human and think or feel. Yes, this is an obvious statement.

These thoughts and feelings might be subconscious observations or lived experiences. But we don't always voice them or are supported in them. Why is that?

Today's society has become so full of how people are supposed to be seen; or, what they are supposed to achieve, that there is this holy grail of achievement or lifestyle we are being encouraged to attain and, at speed.

Is this based on being human? Is it being based on reality? Does it allow for failure? Does it allow for imperfection? Does it allow for happiness? Is it an unforgiving society where getting things wrong and learning from experience is no longer supported or tolerated? Is that conducive to airing how we are feeling or for our wellbeing? Is that conducive for business, leadership or team-working? Does this aim for unforgiving perfection create toxic workplaces?

Additionally, for many, there isn't that same village of support that our predecessors had either with moving away from home or moving abroad to seek work.

This overwhelming age of social media, data and technology in modern civilisation isn't necessarily a conducive one when it comes to supporting life changes; career advancement; entrepreneurship; parenthood; mid-life changes; crossroads; confidence; ill health; relationships; or, the multitude of balls that we all juggle day to day....to survive or thrive.

And then there are the inequalities that are still existing in different arenas. And have always existed.

It can be exhausting and difficult to have clarity. Especially as one moves further up the chain or it's all on your shoulders. And that’s where life coaching can come in.

That's not to say that you don't have support or friends. But sometimes it's having that non-judgemental support that's so important. The act of being seen and of being heard.

I'm just going to repeat that - the act of being supported - the act of truly being seen for you - the act of truly being heard for you - and the act of truly being able to be you, your authentic self - wherever and whoever you are.

I have intentionally put a selfie of me on this post from two weeks ago - with reflection on my glasses; a grainy lower res image; with sun bleached and white streaked hair (unlike the image on my website, which is intentionally warm to go with the warm colour scheme). It's not perfect. But is it still me? Is it no longer professional? Does it change your view of me? Is it a different me to the one on my website? Which one is more approachable?

Over the next few months I will be covering many areas in my newsletters. But first I wanted to ask you this. Having read this, are there any particular areas that you agree with above? Or disagree with? Are there any particular areas that resonate with you?

If you like the sound of what I have to say, do comment below!

See you soon and thanks for reading,

Katherine
